Are you an Employer of Chocie?
Many of our valuable Precruitment Temps have the opportunity to work in a variety of businesses. This provides them with a unique opportunity to compare one business with another. Have you worked with an Employer of Choice?
A reputation as an “Employer of Choice” is important for a business which is determined to attract and keep the best people and to be a successful organization or business.
Ask yourself the question; “Who do you really want to work for and what would motivate you to join one company rather than another?”
This question is asked consciously and unconsciously by all employees and has a big impact on all organizations.
It is especially important for SMEs which may not have the financial strength to offer the perks, such as in-house gyms and cafes that some large firms can offer. The term used to represent an organization which is attractive to work for is “Employer of Choice”.
On the surface, this may seem like yet another management fad, however Employer of Choice is an apt description for an organization which is perceived to be an outstanding place to work.
Smart organizations know that having the right staff is vital for the success of a business. But how do they attract and retain the individuals to make this happen?
A recent forum for HR managers from various companies discussed the topic of being an Employer of Choice. Although many definitions of Employer of Choice were discussed, two common themes emerged.
First, an Employer of Choice is usually an industry phenomenon, where potential employees and the public have a favourable perception of the company compared with its competitors and companies in related industries. Second, it reflects the characteristics, values and culture of an organization, such as being a learning organization, or having a relaxed work environment. Of these, the last is potentially the biggest challenge to organizations.
It requires that they create an environment and work structure that addresses the many needs of each of their employees.
So how does an organization become an Employer of Choice?
Several key strategies can be identified. The main one is to have an effective recruitment process which sells the unique benefits of the organization to potential employees.
Linked to this is the need to have effective marketing. In particular, a strong brand needs to be established to ensure that the public, any of whom may be future employees, are aware of the quality goods and services your company offers. The marketing must also sell your organization as an excellent place to work.
